We are committed to increasing the number of Assisted Places available, giving more bright girls a future at KEHS. In the short-term, we plan to raise an annual income through regular giving to support pupils year-on-year. The long-term, sustainable solution is to build up an Assisted Places Endowment Fund, the income of which will fund places in perpetuity.
Legacy gifts are about making a lasting difference. By leaving a gift to The KEHS Trust in your will, you will be changing the lives of KEHS girls for generations to come.
To thank you for your gift, all legators will be invited to join the Creak Society. Members will be offered a number of special benefits and will be able to see first-hand the kind of impact that their legacy will have on young women in our community.
For 140 years, KEHS has offered an education second-to-none to girls throughout our region. Our aim is to ensure that our Assisted Place scheme lasts just as long.
Our long-term aim is to double the number of Assisted Places that are available so that every bright girl who achieves the top marks in her entrance exam can come here. In the short-term, we plan to raise an annual income to fund Assisted Places through regular giving. However the long-term, sustainable solution is to create an endowment to fund places in perpetuity. Your legacy will be included in this fund, ensuring that your gift will help girls for generations to come.
To show our gratitude to those who have chosen to leave a legacy to the Trust, we have created the Creak Society.
Members of this exclusive club receive a number of special benefits and regular opportunities to visit our School.
Throughout your lifetime, you’ll see first-hand how gifts like yours are making a difference to the lives of young women at KEHS.
All members will have the option to appear in our Creak Society Register, a book of small biographies of our members which will be displayed in School so that girls can learn about the people who have helped them so much.
There are a number of different types of legacy that you can leave to The KEHS Trust, depending on your circumstances. The most common three are Residuary, Pecuniary and Specific Legacies. Contact your solicitor for advice on the best type for your circumstances.
Residuary Legacy
A Residuary Legacy leaves all or part of your remaining estate after all other bequests have been made and expenses have been met. This is the safest way to ensure your legacy retains its value.
Pecuniary Legacy
A Pecuniary Legacy leaves a specified, set sum of money. You can index link the amount to the Retail Price Index to avoid the problems associated with inflation.
Specific Legacy
A Specific Legacy leaves a specified possession which you gift to The Trust. This may be in the form of property, valuables, works of art or stocks and shares.
If you are a beneficiary of someone else’s will, it may also be possible to give a gift from their estate. Speak to your solicitor about instruments of variation.
1. Decide on the Type of Legacy
You will need to choose the type of legacy that you would like to leave (see above) in consultation with your solicitor.
2. Send us a Pledge Form
If you wish to make a legacy, please complete and return a pledge form. This form is not a legal commitment and you can change your mind. However, it is a simple way for you to express your wishes, and it will help our School to plan for the future. It will also enable us to thank you properly for your gift during your lifetime.
3. Inform your Solicitor
If this is your first will, you simply need to ask your solicitor to insert a paragraph in your will detailing your wishes. If you already have a will, you can ask your solicitor to update it by adding a codicil. Get in touch to request a legacy pack.
4. Confirmation and Recognition
Once we have received your pledge form, we will be in touch to confirm all the details. This is also a good opportunity to discuss how the legacy will be used and how you want the School to recognise your gift.

How do I prioritise my family in my will?
There are a number of ways of leaving a legacy that ensure your family is taken care of first. You solicitor will be able to advise you on the best action to take based on your circumstances and wishes.
Will my gift make a difference?
Yes. Every gift gets us a little closer to offering another girl an education second to none. No matter the size, it will make a real difference to a girl's life.
How will leaving a legacy benefit me?
There are a number of practical, financial and emotional benefits to leaving a legacy. In your lifetime, it is a gift that will cost you nothing. Plus, you’ll receive all the benefits of Creak Society membership. When you have passed, your legacy could reduce the tax liability on your estate. You'll be remembered and commemorated by the School as one of our Creak Society members. And of course, you'll make a real difference in a young girl's life.
I support a number of charities. Why should I choose The KEHS Trust?
King Edward VI High School for Girls is a great School. It is made great not only by the quality of teaching and wealth of opportunities it offers, but by the generations of bright young women who have passed through its doors. These women have gone on to achieve remarkable things. Most of them would not have come here if they had not been offered financial support. We want to ensure that the same transformational education is available to young women today, to give them the same opportunities that have shaped our own lives. We can only achieve this with your help.
What exactly will my donation do?
Your donation will be used to help give Assisted Places to bright girls in and around Birmingham whose families couldn't otherwise afford to send them to KEHS. It will provide those girls the same outstanding education we offer all of our pupils. It may also help provide for additional educational costs, like school trips, equipment and uniforms.
How much of my donation will be spent in administrative costs?
None of it! All of our administrative and marketing costs are paid for by the Foundation, so 100% of your gift will be go towards an Assisted Place for a bright little girl.
Why isn't the Foundation funding more places?
Each year, the Foundation provides around £1,000,000 for Assisted Places. It is also responsible for paying for facilities and capital developments on our site - expenditures that are not covered by school fees. With 13 schools across Birmingham to look after, this is the limit to which they can support us at present.
